About the Miami-Dade Ethics Commission

  • Jurisdiction extends over 35,000 county and municipal officials and employees
  • Nine full-time employees by the end of 2000
  • The Ethics Commission is composed of five members and each serves staggered terms of four (4) years:
    • Chief Judge of the 11th Judicial Circuit appoints two of the members;
    • the Dean of the University of Miami School of Law and the Dean of St. Thomas University School of Law share in one appointment;
    • the Director of Florida International University's Center for Labor Research and Studies appoints one member; and
    • the Miami-Dade League of Cities appoints one member
  • Works closely with the Office of the Inspector General
