Areas to check:

  1. Using office for private gain
  2. using organization resources for personal purposes
  3. soliciting gifts or accepting gifts from persons doing business with the organization
  4. seeking or accepting private compensation for doing one's work (gratuities)
  5. soliciting political contributions or political activity from subordinates
  6. disclosure of confidential organization information or using this information for private purposes
  7. appearing before organization agencies on behalf of private interests or representing private interests in organization matters
  8. seeking a job from a private person or firm with which one is dealing in one's capacity with the organization
  9. after leaving the organization:
    • appearing in front of one's former agency;
    • working on a matter on behalf of a private employer that one worked on while with the organization
  10. inducing other officials to violate the ethics code
  11. holding a position with a private firm doing business with the organization
  12. having an ownership interest in a private firm doing business with the organization
  13. acting as a lawyer or expert against the organization interest
  14. paying money to anyone in order to obtain one's position or a raise/promotion
  15. using one's position to coerce someone to make a political contribution or engage in political activity
  16. Soliciting political or charitable contributions from persons doing business with the organization.
  17. holding both a city position and a political party position (for city officials)
  18. having a financial or business relationship with a superior or subordinate
  19. engaging in conduct that conflicts with ones' official duties
  20. causing a city official to violate the conflict of interest code
